Enjoy a Group of Seven Musical Tribute in Toronto

Written by  Reprinted from Weekend Trips – The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is best known for its extensive collection of Canadian art (over 6,000 pieces) including an impressive collection of Group of Seven paintings.

On Sunday, April 14th at 2:30 p.m., fans have the chance to experience a musical tribute performance dedicated to the Group of Seven. The Group of Seven Suite, is composed by Tony Quarrington and hosted by Jaymz Bee from JAZZ FM91.

groupofsevenTony Quarrington’s Group of Seven Suite took 10 years to complete. He last played at the McMichael in 2001. Now, in 2013 he is joined by Jane Bunnett on sax and flute, Jeff Bird on mandolin, harmonica, and percussion, and Brian Dickinson on piano. In addition to those musicians, Larry Cramer on trumpet, Roberto Occipinti on bass, Mike McClelland on drums, and vocals by Laura Smith will also be on stage. These talented artists will be joining Tony Quarrington on guitar for this performance.

A special tour of the Group of Seven works from the Collection takes place at 1:00 p.m. before the show. You will get the chance to see the works October Gold by Franklin Carmichael and Mountain Portage by Fred Varley that inspired this musical suite.

Taking transit? For $5 per person, a bus to and from the McMichael will be available. The bus leaves from the Rex Hotel (194 Queen St. West) at 12:00 p.m. and will return at 5:00 p.m.
